Anne Coen Needham is an artist with a passion for life that is reflected in her work. Both her portraits and expressionistic paintings reflect her zeal and shine through her work. An Atlanta native she has a gift eye for color, proportion and design. Her expanded palette of bright primary colors often contrasts with her work that focuses on neutral and monochromatic works.
A daughter of textile and fashion designer Anne was exposed to the world of art early. Her mother, a former artist rotated the children, her "models," through her daily sketching sessions. After 30 years in the corporate world and with the encouragement and support of her husband, she leapt into art. Woodworking, sculpting, ceramics and meeting and working with other artists in Atlanta led her to painting, her place of joy! Oil is her preferred medium, using palette knife along with brush.
Her beautiful Atlanta studio is where you'll find this self-taught artist. Anne sees most daily events as a subject to be canvas worthy, from a birds nest in a tree outside of her studio, to a visit from a neighbor’s dog; she finds a passion for her artistic expression. Her multi-media experimentation where she has added texturing, scraping and the use of organic material allows her to patiently await each piece to present itself!
In pursuing a passion for animal portraiture, Anne takes to meet and greet, play a bit and take her own photos. These intimate encounters allow her to know her client’s beloved pet as a family member, thus allowing her capture the emotion for their pet.
Each piece that Anne develops contains a story that reflects her feelings and emotions that translates into her work. She often meets with those fortunate enough to acquire her work to explain the basis for each piece.
Active in the Atlanata art scene, Anne is a member of the Board of Directors for Art Sandy Springs as well as co-chair for the ninth annual BOWS ARTSS BASH, “Palate to Palette” fundraiser for Art Sandy Springs (ArtSS.)
